The body of the accused was found hanging from a tree in Bhadrak district of Odisha.

According to sources, on September 3, Mukti Ranjan went to Mahalakshmi's house to meet her. There, a quarrel broke out between the two again. Accused Mukti Ranjan Roy strangled Mahalakshmi to death. After this, in panic, he cut Mahalakshmi's body into several pieces and kept it in the fridge, and fled from there.

According to police sources, based on the conversation with Mukti Ranjan, the younger brother of the accused said that his brother was depressed after murdering Mahalakshmi in panic.
