Hindenburg Research: The storm of Hindenburg that has hit India is now slowly gaining momentum. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has also targeted it. Rahul said on Sunday that the allegations against the chairman of SEBI have seriously compromised the integrity of the institution. He asked whether the Supreme Court will again take suo motu cognizance of this matter. Gandhi's comment came after the Hindenburg report, in which the American research and investment firm released its report on Saturday night.
SEBI severely affected
Rahul Gandhi said through a video shared on social media that the integrity of the securities regulator SEBI, which is responsible for protecting the assets of small retail investors, has been seriously affected by the allegations against its chairman. The Congress leader said that honest investors across the country have many questions for the government.
My duty as the leader of the opposition
He also said that as the leader of the opposition, I must bring to your attention that there is a lot of risk in the Indian stock market, because the institutions that regulate the stock market are compromised. A very serious allegation against the Adani Group was illegal share ownership and price manipulation using offshore funds. Now it has come to light that SEBI chairperson Madhabi Buch and her husband had interests in one of those funds.
Why haven't you resigned yet?
Rahul asked why SEBI chairman Madhavi Puri Buch has not yet resigned. If investors lose their hard-earned money, who will be responsible for it - Prime Minister Narendra Modi, SEBI chairman, or Gautam Adani? Apart from this, Rahul Gandhi has made many allegations. Before this, SEBI has given its first response.
SEBI has said that it has investigated all the allegations against the Adani Group. SEBI said in the statement that its chairperson Madhavi Puri Buch has provided relevant information from time to time and has distanced herself from matters related to potential conflict of interest. SEBI also said that it has duly investigated the allegations made by Hindenburg against Adani.
On the other hand, SEBI chief Madhavi Puri Buch and her husband said on Sunday that US research and investment firm Hindenburg Research is trying to attack the credibility of SEBI and defame the character of the chairman. Terming the latest allegations as malicious and selectively manipulating public information, the Adani Group on Sunday said it has no commercial relationship with the chairman of market regulator SEBI or her husband.
