New Delhi. Justice Sanjeev Khanna took oath as the 51st Chief Justice of the country on Monday. President Draupadi Murmu administered him the oath of office and secrecy. After this, he heard the first case of his tenure. He heard a case related to micro, small, and medium enterprises and debt recovery tribunals.
CJI held a class on the very first day
Senior lawyer Mathews Nedumpara was arguing this case. He argued before the Chief Justice that the Supreme Court should also be for common lawyers and not that only Ambani and Adani's cases will be decided here in a special way. Hearing his words, the Chief Justice said, your case is linked to Justice Bela Trivedi's decision. Then Nedumpara interrupted the CJI and said that but poor MSMEs can be separated in this way. There are crores of MSMEs in the country, here only Ambani-Adani's cases are being heard.
Nedumpara had also clashed with Chandrachud.
Hearing these arguments of Nedumpara, CJI Khanna got angry and reprimanded him saying that we have not come here to listen to your lecture. If you have any problem then please go to DRT. Let us tell you that Mathews Nedumpara had earlier gotten into a fight with the then Chief Justice DY Chandrachud during the hearing of the NEET-UG case. Chandrachud had ordered to call the marshal to remove him from the court.
