New Delhi. Bombay High Court has recently given a big decision regarding Muslims. While hearing the petition, HC said that a Muslim person can register more than one marriage. The High Court said that more than one marriage is allowed in the Muslim Personal Law Board, so we cannot stop them from doing more than one Nikah.

Let us tell you that the Muslim couple had filed a petition in the court and appealed to issue a marriage certificate. The officials refused to give them the certificate as this was the third marriage of the young man. The Muslim man went to the court with his third wife. Where he said that he had applied for a marriage certificate in February 2023 but the marriage registrar refused. The officials argued that the Maharashtra Marriage Bureau Regulation and Marriage Registration Act considers only one marriage valid.
Muslims can have 4 wives.
Bombay High Court, while hearing the case on October 15, asked the Deputy Marriage Registrar of the Municipal Corporation to decide on the application. Justice Burgess Colabawala and Somshekhar Sundaresan, while hearing the case, said that Muslims have the right to keep 4 wives at a time. In such a situation, the court ordered the Municipal Corporation to issue the marriage certificate within 10 days.
