Manipur Violence: Angry mobs set fire to the residences of three more Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs and one Congress MLA in various districts of Imphal Valley in Manipur. Officials said that the protesters also tried to attack the ancestral house of state Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, but the police stopped them.
Let us tell you, after the bodies of three women and three children were found in the Jiribam district of Manipur, protesters took to violent protests in various parts of Imphal Valley on Saturday, after which an indefinite curfew was imposed here. The angry mob also attacked the residences of three state ministers and six MLAs on Saturday. Officials said that the protesters set fire to the houses of Public Works Minister Govinddas Konthoujam in Ningthoukhong, BJP MLA from Hianglam Y Radheshyam in Langmeidong market, BJP MLA Paonam Brojen of Wangjing Tentha in Thoubal district and Congress MLA Lokeshwar of Khundrakpam in Imphal East district. Police said that the angry mob raided the residential complexes of the MLAs, vandalized the property and set the houses on fire. However, the MLA and his family members were not present at home during this time.

The protesters also tried to attack Biren Singh's ancestral residence at Luwangsangbam in the Imphal East area on Saturday night but were stopped by security forces 100-200 metres away. Security personnel, including Assam Rifles, Border Security Force (BSF) and state forces, fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters and foiled their attempt to damage Biren Singh's house, officials said. The angry mob then burnt tyres on the main road leading to Biren Singh's residence and blocked vehicular movement, they said.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has cancelled his rallies in the poll-bound state Maharashtra given the unstable situation in Manipur and is returning to Delhi. Sources said the Home Minister may hold a meeting to review the situation in the northeastern state. Sources said Shah was scheduled to attend some election rallies as part of the BJP's campaign in Maharashtra but he cancelled the rallies and is returning to Delhi. There has been no official statement on the cancellation of his rallies but sources said it could be due to the unstable situation in Manipur. Sources said the Home Minister may hold a meeting with top officials in Delhi to review the situation in Manipur.
