Aviation regulator DGCA has sought a report from Air India regarding the chartered flight of Air India carrying the Indian team stranded in Barbados. Reports have emerged that this flight was scheduled from Newark, New Jersey, USA to Delhi, but it was sent to Barbados.
According to news agency PTI, this caused inconvenience to passengers at Newark airport.
After winning the T20 World Cup, the Indian team was stuck in Barbados for 3 days due to storm Beryl. The team is being brought back by Air India's 'Champions 24 World Cup (AIC24WC)' chartered flight. The team will reach New Delhi between 5 and 6 am on Thursday.
The Indian team boarded the chartered plane on July 3 at 1.13 pm local time.
Air India's claim - We had informed the passengers a day in advance
Regarding this, an Air India official said that passengers did not face any inconvenience due to sending Boeing 777 aircraft to Barbados. Most of the passengers who had booked tickets for the Newark to Delhi flight on July 2 were already informed.
The official said that some passengers who could not be informed about the flight cancellation reached the airport and were taken to New York by road. Those passengers were adjusted in the flight from New York to Delhi.

The Indian team was scheduled to fly to New York on Monday to return to India, but bad weather disrupted the team's schedule. Reports said that Hurricane Beryl, which was in the Atlantic, was blowing winds at a speed of 210 kmph. This Category 4 storm was about 570 km east-southeast of Barbados and due to this, operations at the airport were halted.
