New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced late Monday night that Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goel will be removed from his post. She took this decision after a six-hour meeting with doctors who have been protesting for a long time after the rape and death of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College. The Chief Minister said that the Deputy Commissioner (North) of Kolkata Police, against whom the victim's family has accused of bribery, will also be removed.

CM accepted the demands of doctors.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said, given the demands of junior doctors, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal has said in the meeting that he is ready to resign. Vineet will hand over the responsibility to the new CP. DC North (Abhishek Gupta) will also be removed and a decision will be taken on Tuesday (today) regarding the new DC. Apart from this, full care will also be taken of the safety of the doctors. After the meeting, CM Mamata Banerjee said that the state government has accepted three out of five demands of the agitating doctors. The demand related to the investigation (in the rape-murder case) cannot be met because the matter is in the Supreme Court and the CBI is investigating. He said, "We have full faith in the judiciary."

The Commissioner and doctors of the health department will resign.

CM Mamata said that the government has accepted all four demands of the protesting doctors and one of them, a CBI inquiry, is already underway. The CM said that the Kolkata Police Commissioner (Vineet Kumar Goel) said in the meeting that he is ready to resign. Vineet will hand over the responsibility to the new CP at 4 pm. The Director of Medical Education (Kaushal Naik) and Director of Health Services (Debasish Halder) have also been removed. The CM said that no punitive action would be taken against the protesting doctors. A committee has been formed under the leadership of the Chief Secretary to resolve all matters related to the infrastructure of the health sector.
