Lucknow: Amid the by-elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Modi government has taken a big decision regarding a scheme related to farmers. The central government has approved an amount of more than one billion six crores for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. The Yogi government has given financial approval for 2024-25.
The Yogi government has approved Rs 1 billion 6 crore 19 lakh with the aim of providing protection to farmers from risks in the agricultural sector. This financial approval has been provided in the year 2024-25 under the National Crop Insurance Program (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana).
What did Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi say
Surya Pratap Shahi, Agriculture Minister of the Yogi Government, said that the objective of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is to promote sustainable production in agriculture. Its objective is to provide financial assistance to farmers suffering from crop loss/damage due to unforeseen events. Their income has to be stabilized, so that they remain associated with farming. He said that farmers have to be encouraged to adopt new and modern agricultural practices. Credit flow has to be ensured in the agricultural sector, which will help protect farmers from production risks along with increasing food security, crop diversification, and growth and competitiveness of the agricultural sector.
Who gets the benefit of the scheme?
The benefit of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is available to those farmers who get their crops insured under this scheme. If their crops get damaged after insurance, then the government compensates them under this scheme. Now the amount of this scheme has been given at a time when by-elections are being held on 9 assembly seats in the state and votes will be cast on these seats on November 20.
