New Delhi: Harini Amarasuriya has been made the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. She is the third woman PM of Sri Lanka to reach this position. She has also been the Prime Minister in the interim government formed in Sri Lanka two months ago. Harini Amarasuriya, who took over as the 16th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, is 54 years old. She has studied at Delhi University, and some Bollywood celebrities have also been her batchmates.
Ex-student of Delhi University
Amarasuriya did his early college education at Delhi University. He studied at the famous Hindu College in the early 1990s. From 1991 to 1994, he earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Delhi University. Speaking to the media, Hindu College Principal Anju Srivastava said, 'It is an honor to know that a student who studied at our college has become the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Harini was a student of Sociology from 1991 to 1994 and we are very proud of her achievements. I hope her time at this college has played a role in shaping her path to success.

The principal highlighted that Hindu College has a rich tradition of student governance. Harini's appointment is one in the college's glorious history. Bollywood director Nalin Rajan Singh, Amarasuriya's batchmate, recalled the early 90s at Hindu College. "I have very few memories of her. But I know she used to participate in college festivals and debate competitions. It was the 90s. It is wonderful to see her become the Prime Minister," he said. Amarasuriya was also a batchmate of film director Imtiaz Ali, while noted journalist Arnab Goswami also studied with Harini.
