"Seeing plastic waste in even the remotest places made me realize how deep-rooted the problem is. This needed to be solved." - Khushboo Gandhi
Did you know that India alone produces 9,400 tonnes of plastic waste which ends up in landfills or streams? Despite recycling 60 percent of its waste, plastic waste, including packaging waste, remains littered and unmanaged, impacting terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
Khushboo Gandhi's Pune-based startup, Go Do Good, tackles the plastic waste crisis by repurposing agro-waste into sustainable packaging solutions. With innovative alternatives like coir-based bubble wrap, seaweed ink, and eco-friendly coatings, they're making a significant impact on reducing single-use plastics.
Existing plastic and ink waste are major environmental hazards, with packaging materials often laminated with plastic and printed with toxic inks containing heavy metals. These materials are difficult to recycle and decompose, posing a threat to both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
So how do they do it?
Creating biodegradable and compostable packaging from natural materials.
Developing water-resistant and heat-fillable coatings to replace plastic lamination.
Using tamarind seeds for water-based glue and natural pigments for eco-friendly inks.
Achievements:
Replaced up to 10 tonnes of single-use plastic, printed 1.5 lakh products with eco-friendly inks, and replaced 7 tonnes of bubble wrap with biodegradable coir.Their products are cost-competitive, ensuring a smooth transition from plastic to natural materials.
They are revolutionizing the packaging industry, promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility.
