From the fields of Ratnagiri to global markets, 300 small farmers have revolutionized the mango industry! By launching their direct-to-consumer brand aamoré, they've bypassed middlemen and taken 10 tonnes of the world's best Alphonso mangoes to London, Canada, the USA, and Kuwait.
"We knew the real worth of our authentic produce but feared getting into any kind of trap," says Tejas Kawathekar, director of Konkan Ratnagiri Boomi Agro Producer Limited. Their bold move is paying off, with farmers earning up to ₹1,200 per dozen, a sixfold increase from local sales.
Tejas grew up relishing Alphonsos on his family's farm, witnessing firsthand the hard work behind cultivating this prized fruit. Realizing the potential in the export market, he and other farmers formed Konkan Ratnagiri Boomi Agro Producer Limited in December 2023 to take control of their sales and profits.
Accomplishments
Global Reach: Exported Alphonsos internationally, cutting out middlemen.
Higher Earnings: Farmers now earn significantly more, ensuring fair compensation.
United Effort: 300 farmers united for this game-changing initiative.
Encouraged by their initial success, the farmers plan to expand their operations significantly. They aim to sell 100 tonnes of Alphonso mangoes both domestically and internationally in the upcoming season
