Tata Group's Air India reportedly plans to introduce a voluntary separation scheme (VSS) for approximately 600 employees whose roles are expected to become redundant after its merger with Vistara.
However, the entire flying crew will be retained as the airline plans a massive operational expansion post-merger, according to a report from the Financial Express.
The report also mentioned that Air India's management recently informed employees that some jobs might become redundant following the merger.
To minimize job losses, the Tata Group is attempting to offer new roles to some employees by upskilling them and placing others in different group companies.
Currently, Air India has about 19,000 employees, both contractual and permanent, while Vistara has around 6,500.
