Shashank Rustagi, an ex-TCS employee, recently revealed on X that when he was working at TCS in 2019, he earned Rs 21,000 per month when his expenses were Rs 30,000 per month. 5 years later, in 2024, they offered the same package to freshers.
Rustagi wrote on X, "My TCS salary was 21K My expenses were 30K
This was back in 2019
The worst part is they still offer the same package now :)"
Costs for rent, food, groceries, and travel are increasing daily, yet some big tech companies seem to be stuck on paying employees between Rs 18,000 and Rs 22,000 per month.
This makes survival increasingly challenging, especially for the individuals living in metro cities.
Rustagi's post went viral with over 1.1 million views, sparking a discussion about salaries. Many users added that the issue isn't limited to TCS but extends to other companies as well.
One user wrote, "In Bangalore, you will get 1 BHK for 21k these days. Plus, food, transport, medical emergency costs, etc. How can one survive?"
Another user commented, "Yes, even I was surprised. One of the people who I knew studied in the same college as me. And when I asked what was his package, to my surprise it was the same what they were offering in my clg presently. What astonishes me is that he is a father of a primary school child now.
A third user replied, "Still at the same package and barely any hikes even after gaining years of experience.. due to 90 day notice many offers are getting lost.. and the main big company which mandated work from office from 5 days now."
A fourth user wrote, "Same with a friend. What other option do a TCS employee have if he has done data science engineering? Which all companies can he swich to?"
