The share prices of TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL Tech, and Tech Mahindra have increased significantly in the last quarter. IT companies have seen good growth in the short term, but apart from the share price, it is also important to which company is hiring how much.
It is that time of the year when listed companies announce their earnings for the July-September quarter and many firms have already announced their results for the second quarter of the current financial year. This year's earnings season kicked off with IT giant Tata Consultancy Services.

While TCS led the way in announcing financial results for this quarter, many other IT companies also announced financial results for the previous quarter. Along with earnings, profit, and revenue details, quarterly results tell a lot about a company's hiring practices and work culture.

Out of the top 5 IT firms - Wipro, TCS, Infosys, HCL Tech, and Tech Mahindra, only one saw a decline in its employee count. The rest saw an increase in employee count.

Number of IT companies in Q2 FY25

The big picture in the IT sector is that all five major listed IT firms recruited a number of employees in the July-September 2024 period. However, only one of them received a negative mark in terms of employee count as the company saw a decline in its total headcount in Q2FY25.

HCL Tech is the only IT company whose total headcount declined in Q2FY25. Here's a look at the headcount of major IT companies - TCS, Wipro HCL Tech, Infosys, and Tech Mahindra.

Wipro - India's fourth-largest IT company continued to grow its employee count in the last quarter and added 978 employees during Q2FY25. Wipro's total headcount stood at 233,889 at the end of September 2024, up from 232,911 in the previous quarter.

Infosys - During the July-September 2024 period, the IT services firm added 2,456 employees, ending a six-quarter hiring decline. With this, Infosys' total employee count increased to 3,17,788 at the end of September 2024.

TCS, India's largest IT services company, added 5,726 employees during the July to September 2024 period. With this, the total employee count of the Tata company increased to 612,724.

Tech Mahindra - The IT firm added 6,653 new employees in the quarter under review, its highest hiring in the last five quarters. With this, the total employee count of Tech Mahindra increased to 154,273.

HCL Tech – HCL Technologies is the only IT firm that saw a decline in its total employee count, with a reduction of 780 employees in Q2 FY25. HCL Tech's total employee count stood at 218,621 at the end of September 2024, down from 219,401 in the June 2024 quarter.
