Roma Dutta Chaubey, Managing Director (MD) of tech giant Google India, said on Thursday that after completing 20 years in India, Google is excited about its next innings here, in which artificial intelligence (AI) will play a big role. She said that the company is completely aligning its vision and strategy with the growth and ambitions of the country. In an exclusive conversation with news agency PTI-language, she said that AI should be regulated, but in such a way that there is a good balance between the benefits of the user, which is 'still in its infancy'. At the same time, innovation should be promoted.
India is an important market for Google.
He said India is a very important market for Google. He underlined the company's deep commitment to sectors such as AI, payments, Google Pixel manufacturing, and skill development. Responding to a question about concerns raised by some Indian startup units over alleged anti-competitive practices, Chaubey said Google is partnering and working 'deeply and closely' with the startup ecosystem in the country. Also, millions of apps have been placed on Google Play Store. He said, "As Google, we are partnering deeply with the startup ecosystem, and we have millions of apps on Google Play. We also invest in training Android developers. So I think we are working deeply and closely with the startup ecosystem in India, and we are committed and will continue to do so through the India Digitalization Fund."

Chaubey said Google is aligning its goals with India's growth and outlook. "Today, we have more than 10,000 'Googlers' working from the country for India and other markets and we have a presence in five cities, so multiple offices here, which is really very important. When it comes to India, I always say this - what is good for India is good for Google," she said.

Chaubey said, "Google believes in regulation. We believe technology should be well-regulated. We believe AI should be regulated in a way that takes care of the user's benefit. At the same time, innovation should flourish, so this is a balance that needs to be maintained." He said Google is working 'closely' with the Indian startup ecosystem. India has been and will remain an important market for Google. Chaubey said, "India is a very important market for Google, both from the user point of view and research and development."
