The journey of Shubha Bhatnagar, The Agripreneur who transformed indoor saffron farming & is setting a stage for many!
At 63, homemaker Shubha Bhatnagar turned her dream into reality by starting Shubhavni SmartFarms.
A MA graduate in Hindi, she always had a zeal to try something new and had a keen inclination towards flowers and agriculture.
With support from her family, she used aeroponics to grow saffron indoors in Mainpuri, providing employment to rural women.
Replicating Kashmir's Climate
Shubha, alongside her son and daughter-in-law, replicated Kashmir's unique climate in a cold storage room using lot technology. After sourcing high-quality bulbs directly from Kashmiri farmers, they meticulously maintained optimal conditions for saffron cultivation.
First Successful Harvest
In just three months, Shubhavni SmartFarms yielded its first harvest of two kilograms of saffron.
Empowering Rural Women
Employing 25 women, Shubha's venture offers a stable income and better working conditions compared to traditional field labor.
A Vision for Expansion
Shubha plans to triple the production area and aims for two harvests annually.
Her mission is to lead a saffron "revolution," inspiring others to adopt indoor farming and support local communities.
