New Delhi: 20.74 lakh new employees have been registered under the ESI scheme of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in August. The Ministry of Labor and Employment said in a statement that the new registrations include 9.89 lakh young employees up to the age of 25 years. During this period, 4.14 lakh women employees have been registered in the ESI scheme.
Registration of 28,917 companies
The statement said that 28,917 new companies were registered under the ESI scheme in August. The provisional payroll data of ESIC shows that 20.74 lakh new employees were added in August 2024, ensuring social security for more workers. Apart from this, net registrations increased by 6.80 percent year-on-year in August. A total of 60 transgender employees also registered during the period under review. The statement said that the payroll data is provisional, as the collection of data is ongoing.

The survey is based on responses received between 1 and 31 July 2024. In this, 40,340 employers from 42 countries were asked questions about their fourth-quarter hiring intentions.
