Star Health and Allied Insurance, one of the largest health insurance companies in India, said that their data is safe and has been recovered in time. However, the company has filed a complaint with the cyber crime cell and the matter is under investigation.
How did the data leak happen?
According to a report, a user named "xenZen" has leaked sensitive data of Star Health customers through Telegram chatbots. Through these chatbots, people could download insurance policy details, medical reports, and other documents for free.
How was the matter revealed?
UK security researcher Jason Parker revealed this leak. He contacted a hacker forum and found out that hackers had access to 7.24 terabytes of data. Although Telegram has removed some chatbots, new chatbots are still leaking data.
Telegram response
Telegram has said that it strictly prohibits sharing any kind of personal details. As soon as they come to know of such activity, they immediately remove it and block the users.
