Sudha Murty supports her husband, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy, in the ongoing debate about a 70-hour workweek.
Sudha Murty, who works more than 70 hours a week herself, believes that if you enjoy your work and are passionate about it, then work feels like a holiday.
"You should enjoy your work. If you are passionate about it, then work becomes a holiday," she told the media on Friday.
Narayana Murthy Stands by His 70-Hour Workweek Suggestion:
In an interview with India Today, Narayana Murthy stood by his statement that a 70-hour workweek should be the norm.
He believes that those who have benefited from India have a duty to work hard to improve the lives of the less fortunate.
"We have an enormous responsibility to work very hard to better the lives of poorer sections of society," he explained.
Murthy's comments sparked a heated debate.
He argued that India's low productivity is a problem and suggested that working 70 hours a week could help the country become a developed nation.
Social Media Reaction:
Critics on social media pointed out that Infosys employees are not highly paid and questioned the feasibility of working 70 hours a week for low compensation.
Others argued that quality of work is more important than the quantity of hours worked.
In a CNBC interview, Murthy addressed the backlash, saying that many people, including Western friends and NRIs, supported his view. "Whether it's 70 or 60 hours, that's not the issue," he said.
He invited anyone who has performed better than him to share their thoughts, but he found that many agreed with his perspective.
