Talking about the VIP seats of Jammu and Kashmir, the Anantnag assembly constituency is one of them. This time there is a triangular contest in Anantnag. This time a tough electoral battle is being seen here between Congress, PDP, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). A by-election was also held on this seat in 2016. Then PDP's Mehbooba Mufti had won.

This time Congress has given a ticket to Pirzada Mohammad Syed from Anantnag. Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party (JKPDP) has made Mirza Mehboob its candidate for this seat. BJP has given a ticket to Syed Pirzada Wajahat Hussain from this seat.

JKAP has fielded Hilal Ahmad Shah

Along with this, Ghulam Nabi Azad's party Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), which has separated from Congress, has made Mir Altaf Hussain its candidate. Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) has given a ticket to Hilal Ahmed Shah from the Anantnag assembly constituency. 

PDP's victory in 2014 and 2016 by-elections

In such a situation, it will be interesting to see which party's candidate wins this seat this time. In the 2014 and 2016 by-elections, PDP candidates father and daughter, i.e. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti, had won this seat.

Hilal Ahmed Shah was defeated by Mehbooba Mufti.

By-elections were held on this seat in 2016. PDP's Mehbooba Mufti won from here. She defeated Congress candidate Hilal Ahmed Shah. PDP's Mehbooba Mufti got 17,701 votes. The Congress candidate got only 5,616 votes.

Mohammad Saeed became CM after winning the election from this seat

In the 2014 assembly elections, PDP candidate Mufti Mohammad Sayeed won the election from this seat. Mohammad Sayeed defeated Congress' Hilal Ahmed Shah by 33,200 votes. After winning from Anantnag seat, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed also became the CM of Jammu and Kashmir. After his death, a by-election was held on this seat and his daughter Mehbooba Mufti won.
