Srinagar:  The historic Lal Chowk seat of Srinagar is one of the 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. A fierce contest is expected between the candidates for this seat. The voting on the Lal Chowk seat is to be held on September 25 in the second phase. Apart from other candidates, uncle and nephew are also face to face in this seat and are trying their best to defeat each other. On the other hand, BJP is hopeful that it can hoist its flag on this seat for the first time while the intentions of the National Conference are also similar.

Mir Vs Mir at Lal Chowk

Let us tell you that the senior leader of his party Ashraf Mir, who is contesting from Lal Chowk, and PDP's young candidate Zuhaib Yusuf Mir are uncle and nephew. Ashraf Mir has been a minister in the PDP government and defeated former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from the Sonwar seat in the 2014 assembly elections. However, after the alliance between BJP and PDP broke out in 2018, Ashraf Mir left PDP and joined Altaf Bukhari's own party. After Ashraf Mir left the party, his nephew Zuhaib Mir joined the party. Zuhaib has obtained a PG degree in Economics from Britain. Mehbooba Mufti has given him a ticket from Lal Chowk and now his uncle and nephew are face to face.

BJP is also putting in full force

BJP, which has never won any seat from Kashmir Valley in the history of Jammu and Kashmir,  is putting all its efforts in the Lal Chowk assembly constituency this time. BJP candidate Engineer Aijaz Hussain Rather is the face of the party in Kashmir and that is why the party has fielded him from the prestigious Lal Chowk constituency. To boost the morale of the BJP candidate from Lal Chowk and his workers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself held a rally in Srinagar and tried to attract people. Aijaz said that he is confident that he will win because the BJP has done a lot of development since the abrogation of Article 370 and this time people will vote for development and peace.

1,03,784 voters will decide

Let us tell you that apart from national parties like BJP and Congress, regional parties like NC and PDP also have a significant influence in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Congress and NC have formed an alliance in these elections which looks strong on paper. All these parties are trying to win the Lal Chowk seat. After delimitation, Lal Chowk has become one of the largest assembly constituencies in Kashmir, and that is why winning this seat is not going to be easy for anyone. There are 1,03,784 voters in this seat, out of which 51,928 are men and 51,854 are women. Now only on October 8, it will be known which way the camel will sit on this seat.
