Lucknow: Before the UP assembly by-elections, the Congress is trying to recover from a double blow. First, it lost the Haryana assembly elections and now the Samajwadi Party (SP) has announced its candidates for six of the 10 assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh. Party strategists are hopeful that a better way will be found for an alliance with the SP, which will help in defeating the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Congress party's national general secretary and UP in-charge Avinash Pandey told PTI-Bhasha, "One thing is clear that if the results do not come as per expectations, then it is natural that the workers and leaders will be sad and disappointed. But the party is focused on its goal in Uttar Pradesh because 'jungle raj' has to be ended here." Expressing his displeasure, a Congress worker told PTI-Bhasha, "The result of Congress's defeat in Haryana was that as soon as the results came, the SP announced its candidates for six seats in the state. If our government had been formed there (Haryana) then SP would not have done such a thing.”
