FakeCall malware was first discovered by Kaspersky in the year 2022. Now its new version has become a big threat to crores of Android users. According to the report, this malware has been upgraded. Through this, hackers can overtake people's smartphones from a distance. Cyber ​​security company Zimperium has given information about the upgraded version of this malware. According to the report, this malware is using Vishing, which is called voice phishing. Through this, users are targeted through fraud banking calls or voice messages.

However, hackers send this malware to any Android smartphone with the help of an APK file. As soon as the user installs an app using APK on his phone, this FakeCall malware asks to set the default dialer app in the phone and then asks for many permissions. Users knowingly or unknowingly give it many permissions, due to which hackers keep getting information about the calls coming on the phone and the calls dialed.

To make sure that this malware is not easily detected, it also uses Fake UI i.e. User Interface. This malware resides on third-party apps and fake download platforms. As soon as any user installs an app on his phone through an unknown source or APK, this malware enters the phone and gains access to the phone.

How to avoid it?

  • To prevent such malware from entering your phone, you must ensure that you download any app on your phone only from the Google Play Store.
  • Do not download the app from any third-party app store or website. 
  • Do not install any app on your phone through the APK file. 
  • While installing any app, do not give any permission unnecessarily. By doing this, the app gets access to the phone's camera and microphone, etc.
