A nurse from Kerala, who migrated to the United Kingdom two decades ago, is set to be elected to the British Parliament after he contested as a Labour Party candidate in the recently concluded UK elections and won.

Sojan Joseph, who contested from the Conservative Party's stronghold of Ashford, will be the first Keralite to get elected to the British Parliament. He defeated the veteran politician Damien Green.

Hailing from Kaipuzha in Kottayam a hub of nursing professionals in Kerala - Sojan scripted victory for the Labour Party in Ashford for the first time in the last 139 years.
