Despite opposition and public anger over Budget 2024, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament yesterday, business tycoon Anand Mahindra has expressed his support for the budget's emphasis on creating jobs in the country. He attached a viral pic from the recent stampede-like situation at Mumbai airport for menial job posts, wherein 25,000 appeared for 600 job posts.

"Hence for me, the most important element of yesterday's budget was strong evidence that the Government recognises this to be its most important mission. And that skilling to make young people employable is as important as employment," Mahindra wrote on X.

Mahindra stated that despite India's impressive GDP growth and international recognition as the preferred destination for investment, the vital task must be creating jobs in large numbers.

"We are the envy of the world in terms of our growth in GDP.

We are the preferred destination of the world for investment because of the belief in our future.

But the vital task ahead for us is to ensure that this growth is now accompanied by an explosion in job-creation," Mahindra added.

Mahindra praised job-creating schemes like providing one-month wages to newly employed workers, incentivizing additional employment in the manufacturing sector, and skilling 20 lakh youth over five years. The schemes aim to create opportunities for 4.1 crore youth with a central outlay of 2 lakh crore.

"The schemes announced are promising. But they need to be tracked closely to ensure that the incentives are working and if any tweaks/ modifications are required.

And the private sector needs to step up to the crease and do its part by investing in both employment & employability...

If we don't all pull together for this task, the demographic dividend will go back to being a demographic disaster." Mahindra wrote.
