Elon Musk's satellite internet service Starlink is preparing to start its services in India. Starlink is waiting for the green signal from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the regulator (TRAI). The government has constituted an advisory committee for spectrum allocation for satellite internet service in India. As soon as the allocation process is completed, all service providers will start their satellite internet service in India. Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet has increased the tension between telecom operators Jio, Airtel,, and Vi (Vodafone Idea).

Jio wrote a letter to TRAI.

Recently, Jio has appealed to the telecom regulator TRAI to revise the satellite communication papers. In its letter to the regulator, the country's largest telecom company has emphasized on keeping fair competition for satellite and terrestrial services. Last month, on September 27, a stakeholders meeting was held regarding satellite spectrum allocation, in which TRAI had clarified that satellite spectrum would be allocated without any auction, which was opposed by telecom operators.

Jio is supported by Airtel.

At the recently held India Mobile Congress (IMC 2024), Airtel Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal has also supported the question raised by Jio regarding spectrum allocation. Both Jio and Airtel are going to enter the satellite network market in India. Telecom operators have requested the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) regarding spectrum allocation to maintain fair competition between existing terrestrial services and satellite services.

Apart from Elon Musk, Amazon is also preparing to bring its Project Kuiper satellite internet service to India. Both these companies have applied to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for a satellite broadband license in India. After the launch of satellite broadband service, India's telecom sector may see unprecedented changes in the coming few years.

Starlink

Starlink is popular all over the world

Elon Musk's Starlink satellite internet service is very popular all over the world. Starlink satellite internet service is a part of Elon Musk's SpaceX company. Starlink broadband network works on a satellite system revolving in the lower orbit of the Earth. High-speed broadband internet service is provided to users through Starlink. High-speed internet is provided through satellite broadband without any mobile tower or wire. This satellite-based service will directly benefit especially those users who live in border or hilly areas. The number of mobile towers is very low in these places and laying optical fiber is a very complex task.

Service will not be stopped in bad weather.

Elon Musk's Starlink service has been designed in such a way that it will not be affected by bad weather such as rain, fog, or heat. Even during bad weather, Elon Musk's Starlink service will be able to provide high-speed internet. For satellite broadband service, operators install a dish antenna on the roof of users' homes. After this, the internet signal is received through satellite. Currently, Elon Musk's Starlink internet service is available in 36 countries of the world. Starlink is preparing to start its service in India as soon as possible.
