The Aam Aadmi Party will contest the Delhi Assembly elections alone instead of going with the "overconfident" Congress, a party member said on Wednesday. Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP ) spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said, "AAP will fight alone in Delhi. We are capable of taking on the overconfident Congress and the arrogant BJP alone." She said the Congress took its alliance partners lightly in Haryana and suffered defeat due to its overconfidence. "For the last 10 years, Congress has not had a single seat in the Delhi Assembly, yet AAP offered three seats to Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. Despite this, it did not feel the need to go with allies in Haryana," she said.
Kakkar claimed that the Congress thwarted all efforts of AAP's constituents to form an alliance in Haryana and "did not deem it necessary to go along with its ally". AAP and Congress could not form a pre-poll alliance due to differences over seat sharing.
AAP lost all the seats it contested in Haryana while Congress remained far away from the majority figure. This has cleared the way for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to return to power for the third consecutive time. AAP and Congress had contested the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana in alliance.
In the Lok Sabha elections, AAP contested on one seat in Haryana
In the Lok Sabha elections, the AAP had contested on one seat in Haryana but lost while Congress won five out of 10 seats. Kakkar attributed AAP's victory in Jammu and Kashmir to the party's development-based politics. He said AAP's national convener Arvind Kejriwal will visit Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.
'AAP' opened its account in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.
The AAP on Tuesday opened its account in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Its candidate Mehraj Malik defeated his nearest rival BJP candidate in the Oda constituency by a margin of over 4,538 votes. "Mehraj Malik is very hardworking and has been with the party since the time of movement and struggle," Kakkar said. Malik, a member of the District Development Council, got 23,228 votes, while BJP's Gajay Singh Rana managed to get only 18,690 votes.
