CBSE has issued an official notice for all schools. The notice said that the principals/heads of all affiliated schools are strictly instructed to strictly follow Rule 13 and 14 of CBSE Examination Bye-laws regarding the attendance of students in class 10th and 12th board examinations.
This much attendance is necessary to appear in the exam
According to the notice, a minimum of 75% attendance is required for students to be eligible to appear for board exams. It further said that the board gives a 25% exemption only in cases of medical emergency, participation in national or international sports events, and other serious reasons, for which necessary documents must be submitted.
Asked to inform parents
Schools were directed to inform students and their parents about the need for attendance and the possible consequences in case of non-compliance. If during a surprise inspection of schools by CBSE, it is found that students are absent without proper leave records, it will be considered that they do not attend school regularly, in such a case, CBSE will not allow them to appear in the board exams.
Along with the instructions, the board has also issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) and a proforma list for condonation in case of lack of attendance. It was also said that no changes will be made in the records after the school submits a case of lack of attendance and the attendance will be counted as of January 1 of the academic session.
