Selling a faulty refrigerator has proved costly for Samsung Electronics. The Consumer Court of South Delhi has ordered the company to refund the entire amount of the refrigerator as well as pay a fine. This refrigerator of the South Korean company was bought by a customer a few months ago for Rs 87,000. Within a few months of buying the refrigerator, it malfunctioned five times, after which the customer filed a complaint in the Consumer Court. After hearing the customer's complaint, the court gave strict orders to the company and said that a complaint made within the warranty is sufficient and there is no need to take any expert opinion for manufacturing defects.

compensation will have to be given

According to the report of News 18, the District Consumer Redressal Commission of South Delhi said in its order that the company's product was defective, due to which Samsung will have to return the amount of Rs 87,000 paid for buying the refrigerator. Apart from this, the company will also have to pay a compensation of Rs 10,000 to the customer for causing mental harassment. If the company does not return the customer's money and compensation within 6 months, then it will have to return the money to the customer with an annual interest of 6 percent.

It broke down 5 times in a few months

In the complaint filed against the company, the customer said that within a few months of buying the fridge, it had to be repaired five times. Many parts of the fridge were also replaced. The company kept waiting for its warranty period to end. However, Samsung claimed that whenever the complaining customer contacted, his problem was diagnosed.

keep these things in mind

  • If you have also bought a new refrigerator, then you should keep some things in mind. Always buy a refrigerator with a higher energy star rating.
  • The refrigerator should be kept at some distance from the wall so that the heat coming out of the refrigerator can find a way to escape.
  • If the compressor in the refrigerator does not get proper air, then there is a risk of it getting damaged.
  • Like AC, the refrigerator should also always be connected to the 16-ampere power plug.
  • If there is any problem with the refrigerator, get it repaired from an authorized service center only, so that the warranty remains intact.
