Microsoft restores services, Outlook is active again

 |

On Saturday, Microsoft reported that they have restored service on their platform. Previously, several users had a huge problem with accessing their Outlook email accounts and other applications due to a critical technical issue.

A tweet from the Microsoft 365 Status account stated, “We’re working to resolve the issue that is preventing some users from accessing Outlook's services and features.”

The company claims, however, that the problem has now been resolved and everything is functioning properly once more.

A plethora of Microsoft services started failing as of around 3:30 PM on Saturday (ET). Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365, and even Microsoft Azure were having service issues.

As reported by Downdetector, there were over 37,000 reports of problems surrounding Outlook, more than 24,000 claimed there were issues with Microsoft 365 service, and around 150 users had difficulty with Microsoft Teams.

New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles seemed to be the most affected cities. Due to the outage, many turned to X to voice their frustrations which was a catalyst for further debate around the possibility of a global disruption of Microsoft services.

Microsoft published on their Service Health Update site that their services are back up and running without any problems.

Furthermore, Microsoft 365 Status added on an update posted on X that the company has verified services restoration.

The outage problems concern users greatly.

Microsoft customers are once again facing the issue of service disruptions. Many times this system has had a breakdown. In the last few months, Outlook and Teams have had severe outages more than once. On July 19, 2024, a lot of businesses globally had issues because of major outage in Microsoft Cloud. Airlines, Financial Services, Media and Healthcare were just some sectors that suffered due to this outage.

Windows PC users experienced the dreaded blue screen of death. This blue screen signifies system crash and is usually seen after a system failure. Everything computers and IT systems stopped working due to this technical issue. Simultaneously, due to major service outage 26 November 2023, users faced issues for more than 24 hours without any resolution. However, users faced outages through many different global outages in 2023 and 2024 which seemed to take forever to resolve and remediate.

Other users have also reported issues with the services provided by Microsoft Xbox. One person who uses the X console stated, “Trying to log into Outlook with an Authenticator app is giving me errors too, and that’s because the server is down.”

Right now, Microsoft is keeping an eye on the status of their services, but users seem to be worried about the reliability of their cloud system. The company has not clarified if any particular measures will be put in place to prevent this issue from occurring again in the future.
