Hyundai Celebrates 25 Years of Exports from India, Strengthening Its Global Presence

Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), one of the country’s leading automobile manufacturers, has marked a significant milestone, completing 25 years of vehicle exports from India. Since it began exports in 1999, the company has shipped over 3.7 million (37 lakh) vehicles worldwide, maintaining its position as the largest exporter in the segment.

Hyundai’s impressive export figures highlight the success of India’s push for self-reliant, globally competitive automobile production. Over the years, the company has expanded its reach to more than 150 countries, and currently supplies vehicles to over 60 nations. In 2024, key markets for Hyundai include Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Mexico, Chile, and Peru. The company exported a total of 1,58,686 vehicles that year.

Among its top-selling export models, the i10 family has exceeded 1.5 million units in overseas sales, while the popular Verna series has surpassed 500,000 units. A major achievement for the company is its export of over 1 million vehicles to Africa.

Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL, expressed pride in the company’s accomplishments, stating, “Hyundai Motor India Limited proudly stands as the largest exporter of passenger vehicles from India on a cumulative basis.” He added that this success reflects the growing global trust in Indian engineering and craftsmanship. "Aligned with our global vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,’ our commitment to providing global customers with a wide range of smart mobility solutions will only strengthen as we continue to support ‘Make in India, Made for the World’," Kim said.

The Indian government’s policies, such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for the automobile sector and the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme, have played a crucial role in encouraging investments in vehicle production and exports.

In its financial performance, Hyundai reported a net profit of Rs 1,161 crore for the third quarter (Q3) of FY25. This represents a 19% decline from Rs 1,425 crore in the same quarter of FY24. The company’s revenue from operations also saw a slight dip, decreasing by 1.3% to Rs 16,648 crore, compared to Rs 16,875 crore in the previous year’s third quarter.
