Rahul Gandhi Criticizes BJP Over Vacant Posts in SC Commission
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi took to social media to criticize the government, suggesting that Modi should do something to stem the neglect the organization has suffered which has left some crucial positions unfilled. He said that posting selection was neglected which restrained the organization from effectively protecting the rights of the Dalits.
The former Congress president suggested that BJP’s “anti-Dalit mindset” is what resulted in leaving these posts unfilled.
He said eroding the powers of the commission which is a built on the constitution is an assault one’s constitutional and social rights as a Dalit.
His post further argued, “Again this is an example of the anti-Dalit attitude of BJP . The National Commission for Scheduled Castes, which was set up for the protection of Dalit rights, is now completely ignored having not appointed a chairman for the last one year,” he mentioned.
Gandhi went on to ask, “What can be simpler than that? This commission is a constitutional institution. Treating it with disdain is an insult to Dalits.” He questioned who in the government would be prepared to hear the pleas of the Dalit people and attend to their grievances if not the commission.
“Mr. Pime Minister, your government must appoint members of the Commission as soon as possible so that it can literally perform its basic function of safeguarding the interests and rights of Dalits,” argued the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, which is the lower house of Parliament.
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is created for the purpose of safeguarding the interests of the Scheduled Castes and their exploitation in Social, Educational, Economic and Cultural spheres.
According to the Commission's website, the Commission under the leadership of Kishor Makwana have two posts currently unfilled, namely Vice Chairman and another member.
