CM Rekha Gupta: Ruling Party & Opposition Key to Delhi’s Growth
Speaking in Delhi on tuesday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta focused on the development of the city and highlighted the fact that both the ruling and opposition party are important for the Delhi’s progress.
“The responsibility given to us by public of Delhi is a big thing. They have given trust to us. Every minute here is key. We need to make sure that we respect this house. The two day orientation program shall focus on new learnings and procedures of Vidhan Sabjha to enable smooth functioning of house and debate. Aim is to improve Delhi “ , said CM Gupta.
Further, she said that every moment is precious and one shold not forget to put them to use in a sincere manner.
“People from Delhi have trusted us for quite a time which makes our purpose vital for every one. Every moment is precious , should be utilized and respected. Our only aim is the development of Delhi, and the very nice atmosphere that's prevailing now should prevail for the next 5years too. Ruling, as well as the opposition party is a must for delvelopement,” she further remarked.
Inaugurating a two-day Orientation Programme for newly elected MLAs of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla made the ceremonial address today. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, delivered the keynote address saying that new members need to understand and read the rule book of the House.
Gupta had much to add. "New members must read the rule book of the House, especially the code of conduct for members. Follow these rules during proceedings. Remember that you may only speak in the House after the Speaker has given permission, Atal ji put it best when he said, governments will come and go, the country and democracy should remain.”
He also said that termed ‘mini houses’, there are other parts of the assembly apart from the House thus more familiar to the public called "the Delhi Assembly".
“New Committees will be created in the new financial year,” he said.
In contrast, Delhi's Leader of Opposition, Atishi commented, “We are not here as representatives of any political party. We are here as representatives of the people. Remember sitting in this house is a privilege but it brings enormous responsibility.”
On the first day of Orientation Programme conducted over two days, members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly will be trained on topics such as Do's and Don’ts for Members and How to be an effective Legislator, Legislative and Budgetary Process, Executive Responsibility by Means of Questions and other Legislative Actions, Committee System in Parliament, Parliamentary Privileges, Customs, Conventions, Etquettes and Information Aid to Members & Skills Training.
The budget session of the Delhi Assembly will take place from March 24 to March 28, with the budget being presented on the 25th.
