The government of Delhi will, as of the 1st of April, cease the distribution of petrol for vehicles older than 15 years at all fuel stations within the city, as stated by the Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa over the weekend. This step is in line with measures to reduce emissions from vehicles and air pollution in national capital.

Sirsa in in a meeting with officers of the government stated that the government is taking tough measures to mitigate the levels of pollution. The discussion focused on several important policy initiatives such as age restrictions on vehicles, the use of required anti-smog devices, and electric buses for public transit.

Gadgets for monitoring at petrol stations

“We are putting in place new gadgets at petrol stations that will block any vehicle older than 15 years from getting any fuel,” Sirsa said after the meeting. He also added that the Government of Delhi will be informing the Union Ministry of Petroleum about the decision.

While making the announcement, Sirsa added that to control the pollution further, all tall structures namely, hotels and commercial buildings within Delhi will now be required to have anti-smog guns. This is meant to reduce the increasing pollution levels of the area.

Changeover to electric buses before 2025 is accomplished.

To clearn up the public transport system in a eco-friendly manner, 90% of the city’s public CNG operated buses are set to get replaced with electric operated ones by the end of December 2025. This is set to phase out Delhi’s public transportation structure and is meant to promote an electric bus structure.

The new steps are meant to alleviate the traditional air pollution in the city, one of the major problems for other citizens. These measures are meant for making the surrounding environment for everyone much healthier.
