Once upon a time, in the year 1989 specifically, a B-List villain usurped the world’s greatest hero’s title and went on to openly charge double his fee. An actor worth Rs 492 crores, beat the likes of Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise to bag the title for himself.

In his own words, he said that he was “particularly proud” of his performance as the Joker: “I considered it a piece of pop art”. This was separate from the profit he gained from the fees of Rs 49.2 crore. He grossed a total of Rs 492 crore at that age. Jack Nicholson was viewed to be the highest paid actor in the world with at a staggering fee of Rs 492 which was greater than the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone who average around Rs 164-246 crore. 

He was paid only 5 million dollars as a fee which was a lot compared to what he used to have before earning 41 crores which created a major controversy as he starred in a lot of films.

Batman came out when Nicholson was 52 which means that he was not an actor with great box office success but after the release of the film, it became an instant hit and made him a first-class actor. This greater shock was put into context by the contemporaneous acts of Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Bruce Willis as witnesses to Nicholson’s rising demand.
