Centre’s new proposal claims that only a birth certificate is required as proof of an individual’s date of birth if the person’s date of birth occurs on or after October 1,2023. 

In a notable shift, the Indian government has changed the Passport Rules, meaning that those seeking passports who were born on or after 01/10/2023 will now need to provide birth certificates issued by appropriate authorities as the sole evidence of their date of birth. A memorandum has already been issued this week containing the alterations to the existing rules. The changes will be effective from the date of issuance of the gazette and will alter the passport rules from 1980 as stated by the officials.

Fire exchange breaks out between some gang members and police in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district. 

A clash broke out between the Punjab Police and the gangsters in Kheda village in Tarn Taran district on Saturday. They apparently wounded two gangsters in cross firing. As per police sources, in the course of the gun exchange, a police vehicle was also hit by a bullet. One of the gangsters was later arrested and two sustained injuries.
