According to General Asim Munir, Pakistan’s Army Chief, the ongoing border disputes between Afghanistan and Pakistan is a consequence of the cross border activities brought forth by the TTP which is centered in Afghanistan. He asserted these comments in a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leaders located in Peshawar as reported by government broadcaster PTV News as well as the newspaper Dawn. Furthermore, while addressing the political issues Pakistan is currently facing, he also suggested that the political leaders should consult the soldiers stationed in Afghanistan and resolve the security issues of Pakistan.

There is a cold war going between Afghanistan and Pakistan relations.

The two countries have been waging a cold war over these borders with Pakistan recently claiming that Afghanistan needs to tackle the actions being undertaken by the TTP. This is happening as the TTP is strategizing an attack on Pakistan using their base in Afghanistan, instead of denying these accusations, Afghanistan stood firm.

Violent skirmishes on the joint border between the two countries.

Cross border skirmishes claimed around eight and injured around sixteen in Afghanistan. An A.O from the Pakistan Army stated that PAF strikes over TTP camps in Paktika region of Afghanistan led to the resurgence of hostility on the border. The A.O further mentioned that after the skirmishes opened, gunfire broke out from both ends. A total of one officer from the frontier corps was killed and eleven were wounded. According to him the skirmish was sparked off after there was a thwarted attempt by Afghan based terrorists to enter KPK and also open gunfire.

General Munir’s appeal to the Taliban. As per the report received from Dawn, while meeting with the ministers, the Army Chief suggested that Afghanistan is a “brotherly neighbor and an Islamic country” with whom relations have always been desired to improve. To reiterate General Munir said, ‘ The only difference with Afghanistan is that they have fitna al-Khwarij and they have terrorism across the border into Pakistan.TTP called the enemy of Islam.

In July, the government published an official letter in which TTP was identified as ‘fitna al-Khwarij” (the lewd elements who spoiled the name of Islam) and all the institutions were instructed to refrain from abusing the term “khawarij” (those who attempted to blow up Pakistan)Munir discusses praising the NAP and and tackling against Terrorism.

As everyone unites, General Munir believes that with efforts and assistance of each task, everything will be calmer. Also, he commented on the National Action Plan, noting that while there is consensus on the plan's contents on both sides, there is a need to expedite its execution. NAp is a coalition government with several central ministries that implemented a 20 point strategy policy developed in 2014 to curb terrorism and other forms of violence.
