Anil was in legal trouble for failing to repay his loans, with one consequence being a court summons in London. He was ordered to pay 5,446 crore rupees to 3 banks. Anil claims to have filed for bankruptcy for saying that he does not have money in order to pay even his lawyers. As reported in the Economic Times, to aid in the legal proceedings, he claimed that he and his spouse sold jewelry worth 9.9 crores for legal expenses.

Tina has been supportive while Anil has been facing these issues. Her contribution helped the couple immensely, and she also controlled the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, which helped position her in the business quite well too.
