Indians are employing AI in a multitude of ways. Microsoft reveals that the younger generation is utilizing AI to its maximum potential.
According to the research, 62 percent of those surveyed stated that they are comfortable dealing with AI. As for its usage, that is where the many problems lie.
Along with the celebration of Safer Internet Day, Microsoft Global Online Safety Survey 2025 report has been released. The report highlights the use of AI all over the globe, including India. According to them, the adoption of Generative AI in India is on the rise. Between 19 July and 9 August 2024, an online survey was conducted in 15 countries, where adults and teenagers aged 6 to 17 participated. In India, the results underline the growing importance of AI.
The statistics show that AI growth has outpaced the global average growth in India by more than 2 times, from a sample size of 14,800 children aged 6 to 17 across 15 different countries.
Who are the top users of AI technology?
In India, AI is mostly used for translations, responding to questions, improving workplace productivity, and helping children with their studies. But, like the rest of the world, the fears of how AI can be misused are increasing in India as well. The biggest fears are around internet fraud, deepfakes, and AI scams.
Surveys show that 65 percent of respondents have utilized AI for something, which increased by 26 percent compared to 2023. AI technology has the highest usage among Millennials, with almost 84 percent of them using AI tools.
How are AI Tools Being Used Commercially?
In terms of comfort, over half the respondents said that they became comfortable with AI which had a significant change in daily life. The report states that:

66 use it to help them work more accurately
64 use AI in their work to assist children with their schoolwork
Worries Concerning AI Usage
The survey noted that there is an increase in awareness when it comes to Indian parents understanding the threats that come with their children being online. 61 percent of Indian parents believe they can talk to their children about online perils which is significantly greater than the global average of 41 percent. From the side of parents, 78 believe that their teenagers have come across online dangers somewhere which was also a point of concern for 82% of Indian teens who actually reported it. In these challenging instances, most teens are struggling to figure things out on their own; however, parents do help out and together with the children take measures like blocking accounts of reporting the problematic online material.
76 percent fear the possibility of AI facilitating online abuse.
74 percent are worried about the threat posed by deepfake technology.
73 percent are concerned with potential scamming and fraudulent activities.
70 percent are concerned with AI hallucinations (Misinformation or falsehoods).
More than 80 percent of the people surveyed are concerned about the use of AI by minors below the age of 18.
