New Delhi: India’s most awaited New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) is to be organized from February 1, 2025 at New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam. The festival is being hosted by the National Book Trust (NBT) in celebration of the event as part of the celebration of 75 years of India’s Republic. More than fifty countries will be joining this event; more than two thousand publishers and exhibitors are expected to be present, and over a thousand speakers are to be invited. It is planned to inaugurate by the President of the Indian Republic, Droupadi Murmu on Saturday.

This year there is more than the usual number of exhibitions due to the fact that Russia is the country in focus. Thus, the speakers will come from different countries such as France, Spain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Colombia to discuss literature, launch books, as well as engage in cultural activities.

Russia’s Strong Presence at NDWBF 2025

The emphasis is also made to Russia as the focus country, which will showcase books translated to Hindi, Bengali, English and many other Indian languages more than 1500. Michael of Russia, in an exclusive conversation with ETV Bharat refers to the essence of the literary activity – cooperation. He concluded what is still done by the representatives of the Union of Russian Interpreters and the Institute of Literary Translation for the purpose of organisation of our participation in this book fair this year. Some of the books to be translated will be released in this event. It is these translations which will benefit the Russian language scholarship community in New Delhi and other regions of India.”

He also introduced new topics of Russian literature to the reader of India – for instance from the sphere of contemporary literature, historical prose and children literature. He realized that the sharing of ideas by the two nations via the literature would go a long way in developing a friendly relationship.

Another Russian literary figure who also held an opinion on this was Alexéi Varlámov. It is worthy of note that some of these books have been translated into Hindi, having been taken to India as books of literature that have received important prizes in Russia. It connects directly to the objective of getting to know a different country, its people, and its past in particular. Aside from the book fair, it also entails lectures, discussions, and even meetings with the learners in the Indian universities and schools. Young Russian writers will also be available at the fair and therefore they will have an opportunity to share their experiences with the visitors.

It is not simply about book fair but also concerns the lectures and essential meetings in many Indian universities and high schools. We will also talk to the Indian students concerning the challenges of education, social life and culture so as to improve the relationship of the educational and cultural perspectives of both countries.
