US President Donald Trump has tried to settle the conflict between Russia and Ukraine which has been staling for three years. While he has been trying to negotiate for peace, it is reported that the United States president is interested in the natural reserves of the area. So what riches does Ukraine possess that the United States is trying to ‘acquire’?

Ukraine holds about 5% of the world’s important minerals. These include more than 19 million tonnes of graphite reserves. Ukraine is among the most top 5 countries that produce graphite. In addition, Ukraine is one of the top 5 countries boasting over 19 million tonnes worth of graphite reserves which are essential in electric vehicle batteries.

Before the Russian invasion, Ukraine produced 7% of the world’s titanium which is used to manufacture many products but most notably airplanes and power plants. Apart from that, Europe also possesses a third of the lithium reserves in Ukraine. This is a coveted lightweight metal that finds its way in various products.

The last statement concludes that Ukraine possesses significant reserer of metals like coal, manganese, cesium, and other scarce materials. These are elements utilized in modern weaponry, electronics, wind turbines, and virtually everything else that is deemed advanced. As a study suggests, Russia has seized 63% of Ukraine’s coal reserves along with half of its more tantalizing cesium and rare earth reserves.
