India is making significant strides in advancing its defense sector. After the successful export of BrahMos missiles to the Philippines, another milestone has been achieved with Bharat Forge’s subsidiary, Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), signing a groundbreaking agreement with AM General, a major American defense company. The deal involves the supply of cutting-edge artillery guns, marking the first time India will supply advanced cannons to the United States.

The historic agreement was signed in Abu Dhabi, during the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) 2025, showcasing India’s growing presence on the global defense stage. Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge, expressed immense pride in the achievement, stating, “This is a testament to our technical expertise and a significant step toward our goal of becoming a global leader in artillery solutions.” He further added, “This agreement reflects the trust placed in us by leading global defense firms like AM General.”

Until now, India has primarily been seen as a buyer of defense equipment, but this agreement signals a shift, positioning India as a weapons exporter on the global stage. AM General’s Executive Vice President, John Chadbourn, highlighted the synergy between the two companies, saying, “KSSL’s proven expertise in artillery and our shared commitment to innovation creates tremendous potential to deliver advanced artillery solutions to the U.S. defense forces.”

KSSL, a fully owned subsidiary of Bharat Forge, has been at the forefront of indigenous defense manufacturing, producing advanced weapon platforms, off-road mobility solutions, and high-tech military products. The company has already made a name for itself by exporting its in-house designed artillery systems and war materials to global markets.

AM General, known for its leadership in military vehicle platforms, has been exploring next-generation artillery systems. This new agreement with KSSL strengthens their ongoing collaboration in artillery manufacturing, underscoring the growing defense ties between India and the U.S. Kalyani stated, “We at KSSL are proud to be the first Indian company to reach this milestone. It highlights our commitment to delivering battle-tested, state-of-the-art artillery solutions for modern warfare.”

Bharat Forge’s guns are equipped with an advanced electric drive system, making them highly reliable and lethal. The system also reduces maintenance costs, further enhancing their appeal. One of the notable models is the Bharat-52, a 155mm, 52-caliber towed howitzer, which was designed and developed in India. Another significant product, the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), is a 155mm, 52-caliber howitzer developed in collaboration with Tata Power SED and DRDO, further solidifying India’s growing defense capabilities.
