In 2021, Trump's Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabriela Gabbard controversially yet valiantly proposed an aid resolution in US Congress for the defense and protection of Hindu minorities residing in Bangladesh while at the same time bashing the Pakistan army for their Hindu ethnic cleansing during civil war in Pakistan in 1971.

Gabbard, Tulsi who is the first American Hindu in the Congress has over years openly expressed her displeasure against the abuse and violence committed against the Hindu and other minority people of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

In July 2024, the political upheaval transitioned into a violent anti-state populist rebellion which is famously known as the Student-People’s coup and subsequently expelled the Awami League government from power along with the Premier Sheikh Hasina, who was labeled as a despot marking the head of an ominously authoritarian and corrupt regime, democratically eroding the country. Mob violence erupted in the aftermath of the political chaos targeting the Hindu minority of Bangladesh, which is the least discussed aspect of this turmoil. A lot of individuals from Hindu background fell victim to the mob frenzy.

In her resolution, Tulsi Gabbard made note of the fact that more than five decades ago, the Pakistani Army systematically targeted and executed around two to three million Bengali Hindus through killings and rampant torture which forced thousands of Bengali Hindus from their homes in Bangladesh.

She emphasizes, “The Hindus and other religious groups in Bangladesh have been actively targeted and persecuted since 1971 when the Pakistani army methodically executed systematic genocide including murder, rape, and forced relocation of millions of Bengali Hindus solely based on their religion and ethnicity.”
