Every industry has its share of success and failures. Every day new scripts are being drafted. Some times the right actors are found for direcers, while other times sheer luck does the trick. This is one of many films that was turned down by Hrithik Roshan and Aamir Khan. Although actor Rishi Kapoor at first scorned the film due to its screen time, he later on accepted to be casted in it.
Everyone loves a good rom-com. They provide a certain level of comedic relaxation along with wonderful love stories. The aspect of stunning visuals in the film serves as a reprieve from real life. Every decade is marked by a iconic film with an interesting plot, wonderful songs, great actors, and a box office hit. ‘Hum Tum’ is such film. This movie was a great success of the decade. The film which released in 2005 featured Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji alongside Rishis Kapoor, Kirron Kher and others. Abhishek Bachchan also appeared in the movie as a side character.
Why Was This Film Rejected By Hrithik Roshan And Aamir Khan?
In a previous interview, Kunal Kohli, the director, explained the details of what happened with Roshan and Khan before Saif Ali Khan was cast. “Hrithik loved the script. He said, ‘I am not confident of the films I am doing right now, I don’t know how many of them will work or what will happen to them, and I don’t know whether I am in the right frame of mind to do this.’ He said to wait for a couple of his films to release and then let’s take a call. Adi (Aditya) said it would be illogical to wait two years and see how his films do and then make a decision so he proposed to us let this go. Also, because Hrithik wasn’t sure if he will do it, he was quite honest that I don’t think I am right for this space.”
As for Kohli, he remembers that Aamir Khan was going through the rough patch of his divorce with Reena and at that time made it very clear that a rom-com was not suitable for him. “I don’t remember if we approached him before or after Hrithik."
But Aamir was in the middle of his divorce with Reena, and said, ‘I am not even in that frame of mind right now. I his is a romcom, I think I will pass on this one.’ It was this that made Kunal Kohli and Aditya Chopra all too eager to settle for Saif Ali Khan, who, at that point, was already an established star, and he instantly understood how well he fit into the part.
Speaking, to Aleena Dissects recently, Kunal said: “When I narrated the role to Rishi Kapoor, he said ‘I am not doing this.’ Guest appearance hai, mujhe nahi karna, kya hai? Bakwas hai. Saat toh scene diye tune mereko, nahi karna mujhe’.”
Rested the sentence of Rishi, Aamir does not intend to accept simply because he received an offering which does not fit well to his stature. Indeed, Kunal's Original idea needed refining. However, the former actor accepted his reasoning once Kunal started dramatically portraying the scenes.
Box Office Reign
The film became a superhit with great songs and is was enlisted as the sixth highest grossing film in that decade.
