New Delhi – A devastating stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday night claimed the lives of at least 18 people, leaving several others injured. The chaos erupted after a massive crowd gathered following the announcement of a special train, triggering panic within minutes.
According to reports, the surge in passengers was due to devotees rushing to board special trains headed to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh. Within 15–20 minutes, the situation spiraled out of control, leading to a tragic loss of life.
Leaders Express Grief
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to express his sorrow over the incident. He wrote:
"Distressed by the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. The authorities are assisting all those affected by this tragedy."
Delhi Police confirmed that among the 18 victims, 14 were women. The stampede reportedly occurred around 10 PM.

Leaders across the political spectrum have expressed their condolences:
- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated, "An unfortunate incident took place at New Delhi Railway Station. My deepest condolences to all those who lost their lives."
- AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal also shared his grief, saying, "The tragic deaths of devotees traveling to the Maha Kumbh are heartbreaking. May God give peace to their souls. My thoughts are with the bereaved families."
- Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar expressed his sorrow, tweeting, "Deeply pained by the loss of lives at New Delhi Railway Station. My heartfelt condolences to the families, and I pray for the swift recovery of the injured."
