A healthy mind thrives in a healthy body, and yoga is one of the most revered practices that fosters both physical and mental well-being. Known for its ability to enhance flexibility, strength, and clarity of mind, yoga also plays a crucial role in reducing stress and improving overall health. Originating in ancient India more than 5,000 years ago, yoga has since become a global phenomenon, inspiring millions around the world.

India, often recognized as the birthplace of yoga, continues to lead the way in promoting this ancient discipline. However, its reach has grown beyond borders, with global figures contributing to its evolution. One such individual is Princess Mashael Bint Faisal Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, who has made history as the first Saudi national to join the board of the Asian Yoga Sports Federation (AYSF).

The Saudi Yoga Committee shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), expressing their congratulations to Princess Mashael. They wrote, “The Saudi Yoga Committee extends its heartfelt congratulations to Her Highness Princess Mashael bint Faisal Al Saud on her appointment as a Board Member of the Asian Yogasana Sports Federation (AYSF), representing Saudi Arabia, and as the President of the Women & Children’s Safeguarding Committee.”

They also wished her success, stating, “We wish Her Highness every success in advancing the role of women and children in sports and promoting the values of safety and empowerment in the athletic community @Mishael_Faisal1.”

With over 15 years of experience in yoga, including expertise in Hatha Yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, the Himalayan tradition of meditation, and yoga therapy, Princess Mashael Bint Faisal Al Saud is a dedicated practitioner of the art. Beyond her personal yoga journey, she is a strong advocate for women and youth in sports. She leads a sports NGO and has served as the President of the Women’s Committee of the Arab Cycling Federation, as well as the former President of the Saudi Cycling Federation’s Women’s Committee.

The Asian Yogasana Sports Federation (AYSF) aims to foster a culture of yogasana sports, promoting fitness, well-being, and the competitive spirit through yogasana practice. AYSF is instrumental in organizing the Asian Championships in yoga and serves as the governing body to establish the standards and guidelines that ensure the championships are executed fairly and professionally. Additionally, the federation emphasizes inclusivity, encouraging participation from various countries and cultures across Asia.

Through her role in AYSF, Princess Mashael is set to make a significant impact in the global yoga community, advancing not just the practice of yoga, but also the empowerment of women and children in sports.
