Meet Mohan Singh Bisht: BJP MLA from Mustafabad and Potential Delhi CM Candidate

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a stunning victory during the Delhi Assembly elections as some of the senior leaders from the rival Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered an unusual defeat. Former Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal got defeated badly in the New Delhi Assembly seat also known for AAP stronghold. As per latest Election Commission (EC) trends the BJP leads in 43 of the 70 seats while AAP leads in 16. With this, the saffron party is set to form the government in Delhi after 26 years.
In the meantime Manish Sisodia has already accepted his defeat to BJP Tarvinder Singh Marwah for Jangpura. In the meanwhile, Kavita Kejriwal Singh claimed to have beaten AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal in considering himself the New Delhi high profile seat. The son of former Chief Minister of Delhi, Sahib Singh Verma, told media that credit for his ‘win’ goes to Narendra Modi and people of Delhi.
Now that the BJP appears to be winning the Assembly elections in Delhi, all eyes are focused on who will lead. While Mohan Singh Bisht is considered one of the frontrunners, he faces stiff competition from Parvesh Verma who appears to be leading the race. Given his vast experience in this field, Mohan Singh Bisht is supposed to be one of BJP’s most seasoned leaders who stood as a candidate for the Muslim predominant constituency seat of Mustafabad.
Who is Mohan Singh Bisht?
Bisht is the current MLA of Karawal Nagar and got replaced by Kapil Mishra.
Bisht is yet another veteran leader of BJP having considerable experience in the politics of the National Capital.
He first started serving as MLA in Karawal Nagar back in 1998 and has been holding that seat even today.
Mishra, who was supported by AAP during the elections, won that seat in 2015.
However, in a later election, Bisht fought again and won against Durgesh Pathak from AAP.
Bisht condemned the BJP’s decision to elect Mishra instead of himself. He termed this decision a “big mistake” even though internal party surveys indicated that voters were more supportive of Mishra's style than of Bisht.
Bisht was sulking, so the national leadership of the BJP had to step in. A day later, they announced his candidature from Mustafabad, considering the large number of Pahadis there.
