India to Eradicate TB by 2025, Achieving Target 5 Years Early: Nadda

On Friday, Union Health Minister J P Nadda stated that India is on course to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) this year, five years sooner than the international target.

Nadda shared this information while inaugurating the 9th National Summit on Good and Replicable Practices and Innovations in Public Healthcare System in Pur. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) is organizing a two-day conference.

 "As per the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India is expected to eliminate TB by 2030 but we plan to do achieve this by 2025.” said Nadda.

“During the 100-day TB Mukt Bharat campaign we identified over five lakh TB patients in 455 districts. There is a strong campaign in progress, with the addition of all aspirational districts and blocks throughout the country, we will be capable of eliminating TB by the end of the year 2025.” he explained further.

JP Nadda, Nadda: It would be the opposite of reality to suggest that there is a lack of medical care in the rural areas. 

BJP chief Nadda makes attack toward the opposition concerning the Indian deportation from the US issue. 

"I do notice in some cases that officials seem to me to be dragging their feet a little. So, I suggest please treat the elected representatives as mouthpieces of your policies. Work together with the PRI towards improved management of TB Mukt Bharat campaign along with the other 22 lines departments,” the Health minister of the Union told the officers. 

He argued that there is phenomenal acceleration of NCDs because of the adversary effect of the ecology.

"People must reduce oil usage in all households by atleast 10 percent,” said Nadda. “This has to be treated as a movement that fosters a campaign-like approach.”

Nadda continued, “Our country’s 1.4 billion citizens need to be catered to with accessible and quality healthcare, which starts with strengthening base primary healthcare centers.” 

Nadda also said he believes that the only solutions is through Telemedicine, while accepting that there is indeed a lack of doctor's within the country.

“The spoke and hub model needs to be applied in order to ensure that the atas of specialist doctors reach the ayushman Arogya Mandir centers and the primary health care departments,” he added. 

As for election promise sustained delivery of services, Nadda has proposed expanding the use of drones in healthcare. They should be used in hilly and especially remote areas, where transportation is extremely difficult.

Nadda, who spoke about funding last remarked, “If this government built 22 AIIMS in the time frame of just 10 years, then expanding quality healthcare services at a PHC level under NHM is certainly attainable. But the question remains, are you making use of the funds to carve out a better healthcare structure?.”

The Union Health Minister said that the national disease screening program would be effective from 20th February to 31st March to identify a range of health issues like diabetes or three distinct forms of cancer at an early stage.

He further said, “Our expectation is astounding, at 37 percent of the population. And we need to properly target the remaining regions and ensure that each households in every state knows about the scope of services for the specific scheme.”

He noted that because of the scheme, it was possible for more than 90 percent of all breast cancer cases to be detected within the first few days and treatment to begin in under a month’s time.

Nadda intends to position 200 daycare centers devoted to cancer patients by the end of the year and emotionally assured that *every single* district will have at least one center within the next year.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi of Odisha, who took part in the meeting, noted how firm we are in expanding medical infrastructure, “On October 29, 2024, the Prime Minister inaugurated a 100-bedded National Institute for Yoga & Naturopathy.” 

“Further efforts were made to set up National Institute for Pharmaceutical Education and National All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, ” he claimed.

The state has decided to upgrade 7358 urban and rural primary health care (PHC) and sub centres as Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAM) to provide multidisciplinary comprehensive primary health care services including yoga and other wellness services, said Majhi.

He continued, “We have budgetary allocations in the next financial year to construct the new buildings for 1,338 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.” 

Towards the objective of TB Mukt Odisha, the chief minister said that an intensified campaign for TB covering 100 days and intervention in 20 prioritized districts was initiated. 

Odisha's Mukesh Mahaling, Punya Salila Srivastava, the Union Health Secretary, and Aradhana Patnaik, the MD of NHM, were among those who took part in the inaugural session of the summit.
