Google is purportedly working to enhance its Translate app with new features powered by artificial intelligence designed to offer contextual understanding, cultural relevance, and tone customisation. As per the report by Android Authority, the company is said to be experimenting with Google Translate’s updated version with a new button called ‘Ask a Follow-Up’ that enables the use of more sophisticated AI-powered translation tools.

Google Translate: AI-Powered Features

The report states that the modified version of Google Translate includes the ‘Ask a Follow-Up‘ button that is integrated beneath the translation results to provide users with more information. Some important highlights are:

Enhanced insights: Tapping on ‘Ask a Follow-Up’ will enable users to gain deeper explanations or insights into the complex nuances embedded within the translations and aid them in understanding the translations of AI at a more holistic level.

Tone Modification: This feature allows a set of tone-related options to change the tone and style of the interpretation such as Formal, Simplify, Casual, Alternative Translations, Rephrase, Regional Variants, etc.

Audio: Thereafter, users are able to listen to how the translation sounds and is pronounced after the modification is done with the new sound icon. The thumb-up and thumb-down buttons enable users to give feedback on the translations’ quality.

More Help: This feature also grants notes about cultures, bones of region-specific grammar, and reasons why the translation differs in given context or location.

According to the report, the “Ask a Follow-up” option together with the new AI features is currently functional on Google Translate app version 9.3.78.731229477.7 on Android. The update is, however, available on a limited basis to some users for testing purposes. A broader distribution is anticipated in subsequent updates.
