Strong Earthquake Tremors Hit Delhi and NCR

New Delhi: Early Monday morning, strong tremors rocked the national capital and surrounding areas, including Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake registered a magnitude of 4.0, with the tremors hitting at around 5:36 AM. The quake struck at a depth of 5 km.

The tremors were felt across the Delhi-NCR region, including Noida, Indirapuram, and other nearby areas, with coordinates placing the epicenter at 28.59 North latitude and 77.16 East longitude.

Social media was soon flooded with reports from users who had experienced the shaking. Many stated that the intensity was strong enough to wake them from sleep, with some mentioning that their beds were rattled by the quake. There was widespread surprise at the noticeable impact of the magnitude-4 tremors.

In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X, urging residents to stay calm and follow safety precautions. "Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Please stay calm and be alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely," he wrote.

Delhi Police also responded promptly, reassuring the public with a message on social media: “We hope you are safe, Delhi!” and shared the emergency helpline number, 112.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also expressed his concern on X, writing, "I pray for the safety of everyone."

AICC spokesperson Ragini Nayak, who was also affected by the tremors, shared her experience: "Massive tremors were felt 10 minutes ago in Delhi, waking us up from sleep. I hope and pray everyone is safe and sound."
